Meet Dr. John Bassett
Hometown: Born in Fargo, grew up in Detroit

Professional Background
Dr. Bassett received his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI in 1998 and completed internal medicine residency in 2001 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. He completed a rigorous gastroenterology fellowship in the National Capital Consortium, Bethesda Maryland in 2008 and transplant hepatology training at the University of Michigan in 2011.
Dr. Bassett retired from the U.S. Navy after more than 21 years of active duty service in 2019. Subsequently, he transitioned to Sanford Health, Fargo, ND and received an appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Dr. Bassett is passionate about colon cancer prevention and is a member of the North Dakota Colorectal Cancer Roundtable and North Dakota Cancer Coalition. He holds Fellow status in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology.
Personal Interests
Running (registered for August 2020 Fargo Marathon) and spending time with family.
Why is CRC Awareness and Love Your Buns important to me?
CRC is an all too common cancer that is largely preventable with age and risk appropriate screening. LYB is important as we share a desire to reduce this cancer and I was inspired by Sara DCamp's personal story.
