Professional Background

I retired for the second time on June 1, 2018 after 44 years of teaching. I am convinced that I am a teacher because I want to learn. I have a master's degree and certifications in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Math Specialist, and Gifted Education. I spent time in several rural towns in North Dakota. I taught in Bismarck for 20 years and Fargo for about 20 more. I loved teaching elementary gifted students, especially math. Throughout my career I have done workshops, spoken to large groups at conferences, and recently used my training to do children’s messages at church. I like public speaking.

Personal Interests

Personal interests include hiking up mountains (I did the first one two months after my final chemo), writing, watching plays and classic movies, singing, and volunteering at church. I still want to jump out of a plane and do a zip line.

I live with my 13 year old cat, Peanut. She has been so helpful as I have gone through many health issues. I am blessed with many godchildren who keep me busy and travel with me.

Why Love Your Buns is Important to me?

Cancer is very personal for me. I will be a 5-year survivor of Stage 1 ovarian cancer on January 22, 2019. It was not easy to get through the surgeries and chemo and its side effects. Without those around me it would have been even more difficult. As a result of it, I find myself wanting to do all I can to help advance the cause of research and to support survivors. When given the opportunity, I jumped on board to help with Love Your Buns. I love to work on new projects, especially in areas where it will impact the lives of others. Love Your Buns will do just that.

Toilet paper: over or under? Of course, it is over. Look at the print. An important question in my family: soda, pop, or soda-pop?
